are animals any less
sophisticated?

agressive and frustrated
in their fight for survival?
we used to be so too.
we used to follow Freud's first theory
of human nature.
until we achieved survival,
then we developed
compassion, comfort
and love.
animals too,
in such settings show
these emotions.
horses often offer
their necks to one another,
dogs play
instead of fight.
we are more equal than we think;
it is a religious text
along with arrogance,
that has made us think
that we are not.
superior intelligence
(we think we have proven again
and again)
is no excuse for rape -
raping the land and resources that belong
to us all.
